What is Skinvive:
SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® is an FDA approved, hyaluronic gel used to increase hydration of the cheeks. The hyaluronic gel is clinically proven to increase smoothness and create a youthful, long-lasting glow! SKINVIVE™ is not a filler. Therefore, it does not augment the shape or volume of the cheeks. Instead, it is injected as tiny, intradermal microdroplets within the dermis layer, to temporarily increase hydration.
How does it work:
Our skin contains approximately 30% water, this impacts skin’s plumpness, elasticity, and resilience. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in our skin that attracts water to help replenish moisture. Due to aging, climate, and certain procedures HA can become depleted causing dehydration of the skin. Dry skin causes wrinkles and fine lines to appear more visible. While moisturizers and topical treatments can prevent moisture loss, their effects are temporary, and many times they cannot reach deep enough to target the root of the problem. This is why it’s important to provide hydration at the deeper layers of the skin.
Who is it for:
SKINVIVE™ is effective for all skin types and tones! It is most often recommended for dry, aging skin. However, it is also a great option for individuals struggling with increased surface oil as a response to deep skin dehydration. SKINVIVE™ is also a great follow-up treatment to lasers and procedures that have dehydrated the skin. It should not be used in patients with allergies to lidocaine or histories of reaction to fillers or other JUVÉDERM® products, or on those pregnant or nursing.
What to expect during treatment:
Treatments are fast, relatively painless, with no downtime. SKINVIVE™ can even be performed during a lunch break, with treatments only taking about 30 mins, and the ability to return to daily activities immediately afterwards. During the appointment, your provider will discuss the procedure with you, apply a topical numbing medication, then inject multiple microdroplets of the product just below the skin on both cheeks. Lidocaine, a numbing ingredient in SKINVIVE™ helps to keep discomfort to a minimum.
What to Expect After Treatment:
Some immediate results can be visible, with improving results over the next 30 days. Some patients take the full month to achieve optimal results. Ideally, results can last up to six months. Some patients will need a touch up treatment. Results vary.
Small bumps at the injection site may be visible for a few days. In some cases, these can last up to two weeks. Bruising, mild swelling and tenderness may occur. Bruising can take several days or weeks to resolve. Tenderness should resolve within the next 48 hours.
Important Pre & Post Care Instructions:
- Pre-Treatment: As with any injection, there is a chance of bruising, this can take several days or a few weeks to resolve. To decrease the risk of bruising we require patients to discontinue taking fish oils for at least 10 days before the treatment. Taking Sublingual Arnica supplements for 3 days prior to treatment can also decrease the risk of bruising if this is a concern.
- Post-Treatment: It is common to have small bumps at the injection site for a few days. In some cases, these can last up to two weeks. Makeup shouldn’t be applied for 12 hours post treatment. Bruising, mild swelling and tenderness may occur. Bruising can take several days or weeks to resolve. If bruising is a concern sublingual arnica supplements can help lessen the duration. Tenderness should resolve within the next 48 hours. If swelling occurs, apply cold compresses, and try to keep head elevated. For 48 hours post treatment it is important to avoid strenuous exercise, extreme heat, exposure to sunlight, smoking, and alcohol.
